Artist Statement

        Shannon Downing is a media major at Hunter College in New York City, where she was born and raised. She has been surrounded by music her entire life, due to the fact that her dad was very musically inclined, being in many bands throughout his life; also the owner of a rehearsal studio called Roxy Studios, located in Long Island City. Shannon spent most of her days growing up in that studio, meeting and listening to an incredibly diverse group of musicians and artists. Being exposed to this environment throughout her life, has caused her to have a deeply rooted love and passion for music; she would love to be involved in the music industry, to continue being surrounded by the art of music that has helped make her who she is today. 

After losing someone very close to her, Shannon’s love for traveling and appreciating the smaller things in life has grown. She would love for her future works to express and spread to others how beautiful and overlooked these small things are. Some of these future works she hopes to incorporate these ideas in would ideally be music videos, or based around music. She would want these videos to hold meaning and to express the art behind the music, to bring it to life; instead of how many videos have become now where they are mainly based off who has the most money and can get the nicest materialistic items. There is very few musicians who are still passionate about the art behind the music, which Shannon hopes to bring back and emphasize more to younger generations; all of this would be in hopes to help spread her love and appreciation for music to others.
