Blog #3 Relationship Between Shots
This scene is from the movie “Now You See Me”, in this scene the first shot takes place in one of the main characters rooms. It opens up with a shot of the main character from behind as he is stood in front of a mirror but we can only see his back and there is a narration with the characters voice, as he says "closer" the camera zooms in on his back and then immediately jump cuts to his hands and the cards. This scene consists of very fast jump cuts between shots, close up of his hands and the cards, then a close up of his face, and a panning around him; these shots give the audience the idea that they are seeing everything and getting all perspectives, which he is talking about in his narration when he says “the more you think you see the easier it will be to fool you”, so the camera shows the audience all angles to make us think we see it all. Then it moves into the the main character performing a magic trick in a huge crowd but the camera is mainly focused on two close up shots of the main character and the person the magic is being directly performed on, the camera is eye level with both characters and shows the intense eye contact that they never lose between one another. The close camera shots also play along with the words in the magic trick “the closer you look the less you see”, then there is a low angle looking up at the building to tie finish the magic trick, a pan shot of the building and the city, and a birds eye view angle of the crowd around the main character, showing the audience the wider view of the surroundings and letting them see everything.
